Local Group Fundraising

Even though Extinction Rebellion is a volunteer and community based movement there is a need to raise funds to keep the movement going. We now need local groups to put a bit more focus on fundraising for either your Local Group or Extinction Rebellion UK. This book includes all that you need go know about Local Group Fundraising. It is work in progress and will be added to on a constant basis.

One way you can try to do this is adding visible Donate Buttons on your email newsletters and welcome to Extinction Rebellion Emails. Asking for donations on the street: what you need to know

If you are talking to the public primarily for reasons other than fundraising, you can add a suggestion to make a donation.

If you are on the streets with the primary aim of raising money, there are a few more rules you need to know.

  1. You could be fined £200 if you collect money without a licence. Most local councils require face to face fundraisers to have a licence. Find the relevant council here:

  1. As well as requiring a licence, there are a lot of rules about street fundraising, including those to protect vulnerable people. Anyone considering asking the public for money should make sure they understand the Institute of Fundraising’s code of practice on public collection
